Scriptures to Calm Anger

I’m definitely a different person than I was with my first two children. I have four now and love it! Thankfully, I’m much more relaxed, focused on enjoying them, more structured but less stressed, and immensely grateful. Above all, I’ve learned how to keep my cool.

I remember with my first two, I was a young mom who felt lost. A few times my husband got home to find the three of us sitting in the rocker bawling our eyes out. 😁 It’s easy to lose sight of the prize when in the trenches of motherhood. I wish I could go back and tell that young mother, “You’re doing great! Everything will be alright.”

But unfortunately, I allowed my stress to bubble over into frustration, exhaustion, and anger. I’m not proud to say I went through a season where I battled fits of anger. It wasn’t a long season, but it terrified me. I only yelled at them a few times before God grabbed my attention:

He said, “What if I treated you that way? Look at your child. Be slow to anger and quick to forgive.” I stopped my ranting and looked at my two-year-old. Really looked at them. I saw the look of fear in my child’s eyes and it BROKE me.

I cried and apologized. It was ME throwing the temper tantrum, and it was ugly. I cried out to God to help me change, and He did. I started speaking peace and patience over myself. I wrote down a lot of scriptures on anger, peace, and patience. And it changed our home. I want to share those scriptures with you!

And enjoy this wild, wonderful ride called parenthood. No one is perfect. When you blow it, apologize. When they blow it, forgive.

Take it from a mom of four: this season of raising littles goes by too fast to not be grateful and enjoy even the tough moments. I’ve learned to let myself off the hook a bit when I need to. And to let my kids off the hook when they need it. Grace and joy are so worth it.
